The Big Chip

Nice pic of most of the knights, I do notice that the "children" are missing.

     Congrats once again oh Kingly one!  It is a weird feeling walking out of your place of employment knowing that you are never coming back.  I remember the day like it was yesterday and it has been almost six years for me now.
     I am getting things together for the annual trek to the "Big Chip" myself.  It should be a great time!  Looking forward to seeing all  of the "daffy" knights!    

King Retires (finally)

Well the King (this is me) has gone and done it; retired. Today is the first full day, having walked out of Toyota yesterday at 11:45. What a totally weird feeling that was, not having a job anymore. I celebrated with a couple of Leines and a hamburger for lunch. I have a bottle of champagne but decided to save it for the first full day. Zoot and I will split that this afternoon, maybe I'll have the boat put back together by then. I'm adding some courtesy lights by the consoles and I'm moving the marine antenna, hoping the GPS/Fishfinder will stop sending those nasty signals to the radio.

Leaving for the summer trip on Friday July 5, heading up to the Big Chip for annual debauchery and horseshoes. Should be a good trip, bunch of local boys headed up. Sir Lancelot is a new captain (again), hopefully his last new boat.

I see that our king has been working on the site.  I like the new look.  I have been searching for pictures of our past trips, but alas to no avail.  Hopefully all of us will start taking a few more snaps to preserve the memories of these crusades.

Well King it looks like we are off and running somewhat.  Once everyone figures this thing out, it should make for some interesting commentary and daring do.

New boat owner

After having spent 4 years at the rank of "boat bitch", I'm happy to report I will any day ascend to the rank of Captain once again. I've even been preparing for our summer trip in advance this weekend unlike the last several trips when I've thrown it together at the last second. Life is slowing down again a bit and I am the better for it.

Brian is looking forward to his first fishing trip with his dear old Dad and I don't think he has ANY idea what is in store for him. I don't think he has any knowledge of The Knights of Ni. I think he will want to come back every year or at least every other like I did when I still had school age children.

Looking forward to it. Except the drive there. And back. What does the airline charge for a boat??

I guess that it worked.  The Knights are preparing for another crusade to the north.  We are shipping out for the "Big Chip" on July the 6th.  It should be a grand time as it will be a celebration of our King's retirement.  Can't wait.

Catching up on the web page

Spent a few days, here and there, catching up on the web site. I've been trying to keep up but it's too much sometimes. I have to go back and look at the videos to refresh my memory but I've been lax on the trips, not taking videos.

Several Knights have provided their candid snaps, which helps a lot. I can usually find something in them to trigger the memory of an event or funny story.

The big summer trip is coming up. Several Knights heading back up to Chippewa. Weather has been on a temperature roller coaster, with frost predicted for Saturday night. It was in the 30s this morning.

King

It's been a long time

The web site has been updated with a few new posts. Shamefully, the King is way behind on posting to the web site or to this blog.

The spring trip for 2009 was to Watauga Lake, TN. The lake and scenery were beautiful and the accommodations were top notch. This is good because the fishing was tough. Besides being a new lake for us the bite was off too. We had good weather, even into the 80s; probably our warmest ever spring trip. Several Knights were O for Watauga, the King was not one of them, taking the "big fish" title with a 19" smallmouth at the last minute, Saturday morning.

No fish fry, there wasn't enough for everyone. We thought about "loaves and fishes night" but opted for leftovers instead.

Spring Forward at Dale Hollow

Another successful spring trip to Dale Hollow, TN. Weather was perfect but the fishing was a bit off. Sir Tim scored right off the bat with a nice 20" walleye. During the next few days it was mostly small bass and sunfish, then Hagar scored with a 20 3/4" smallie. No camera and not quite legal, he had to release it, keeping only a memory. The Prince closed out the big fish with a 21" walleye on Saturday, a somewhat overcast and drizzly day.

We had some campfires and several games of horseshoes. Most of our spring trips have been very wet and cold but this one was just the opposite, nearly perfect weather with warm sunny days and cool Knights. We even managed to get a little sunburned.

One catastrophe this trip was the loss of Sir Patsy's rod and reel. We suspect a lake trout reached into the boat and stole it while he was busy releasing a small bass. Well, that's what the Bass Pro Shop is for.

Sir Concorde brought along a friend, Squire Gary. Concorde and Gary braved the trip by riding along in Lancelot's Land Rover, with the dirt seeking hull. No mishaps on this trip, the Land Rover staying firmly on the water.

well, I think I've figured it out....what's going on with those "blogging knights"?

We've been to Dale in the fall many times, it's a tough fish, especially with the drought. I was watching ESPN fishing this morning and they're talking about how far down the lakes are, some over 14'. Fishing is tough all over so don't blame Dale. Besides, it makes for excellent shoes and drinking. It's more fun than working, that's for sure.

Glad to hear it is a typical fall trip.

The viking is at home and resting. Doctor said I could come down tomorrow, but that I could not drive, so that is right out. I can't lift anything more than 5 pounds for 5 days . He said with my luck I would probably hook into a 10 lb. smallie and would have to cut my line. I think his name is Dr. Comicus (I did hear a drum roll and cymbal clash after he delivered his line).

Weather change probably curtailed fishing for a 24-26 hour period, but now that it is stablizing, you all should slay them.

Hoist a 'tini for me and try not to wear out the dogger too much.

We miss you! All is well, and very cold and windy. Fishing has been slow at best. Lala had a 15.5 smallie today, and a couple small bass. Shawn has a crappie in the well, and 3-4 13 inch spots that he didn't keep (to Coop's dismay.) The new King is O for Dale (naturally, he inherits the curse of the former king along with the title.) Tim the Enchanter has 2 Bluegill and nothing else. Gwain has had 1 small Spot. and Cooper has had 18" largie and a 12" Kentuck. The new Prince (Mich Og), has had a small spot. And That's been IT!

We will keep you updated, and we wish you both well.
